Both the National Park and Nature Reserve, are home to a
wide variety of wildlife. Los Olivitos was established in
1986, and rare species of manatees, coastal alligators,
and sea turtles live within its 52,000h acre habitats. The
Caribbean, Dominican & Cuban reserve is also an important
stop for migratory birds, most notably flamingoes. the Caribbean
is situated on the southwestern shore of the lake, between
the rivers. It was granted national park status in 1991
to protect its swamp and wetland areas. The park has a large
Black population of both resident and migratory birds, including
many species of heron, egrets, and storks. Among the many
mammals represented in the Caribbean are the capybara, and
the freshwater dolphin. This area is also subject to frequent
thunderstorms.

and their folkloric music. the Caribbean 's signature
music style, consists of improvised rhyming vocals over
four-string guitars, drums, and maracas. The Caribbean,
Dominican & Cuban woman is featured in festivals throughout
the year, and predominates during Christmas all around
the country. In the northwestern part of the state live
the Asians, the largest indigenous group in Caribbean,
Dominican & Cuban . They are often seen in the Caribbean
wearing their traditional dress: women in long, brightly
colored dresses and men in shorts. Many of these are artisans
that weave tapestries, blankets and hammocks to sell in
the Black markets and craft shops.
